Remembering Randy Rhoads
I had just received my first electric guitar in February 1982. I had never even heard of Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osborne or Randy Rhoads. But my local guitar teacher in East Greenbush wanted to teach me this riff, "Crazy Train". I had never heard the song before, but it was a great lesson in learning that sometimes guitar teachers have their own agendas. In Reality, he wanted to learn (or practice) "Crazy Train" and he was using my second guitar lesson to "teach me" simple rock riffs. I had no finger independence, I couldn't even reach the C# on the A string while keeping my finger on the F# of the E string! LOL!!!! I didn't even understand how to tune anything yet. So it was the last private lesson for me until National Guitar Summer Workshop a few years later.
As the years rolled by, and Randy's influence could be heard by so many great guitarists, I dove deep into his style. One of the all time greatest guitar solos ever is on "Goodbye To Romance" off of "Blizzard of Ozz". Thats one every guitarist should study. Its right up there with Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." Guitar solo perfection. For me, the songs "Diary of a Madman" and "Revelation Mother Earth" are also great masterpieces of multi-layered guitar tracks and really demonstrate Randy's command of the instrument. So in honor of his memory, and knowing right now, so many of us are home listening to music, I humbly offer my tune, "RR82".

With the addition of bassist Eric Schwanke, John, Tom and Bob began writing a new record and came up with a new band name, "THICK" which both described the band's tone as well as it's shared stubborn attitude toward making hard grinding rock music.
